A classic while cleaning
My room’s been a little chaotic lately so tonight’s my night to do something about it. I’m going out of town and don’t want to come back to the mess. To that end I’ve put on a movie I’ve seen a thousand times and don’t need to pay that much attention to. That movie is “The Goonies”. I’m actually having a hard time just listening to it. It’s been a little while since I’ve seen it so I’m finding myself actually watching it more than I thought I would. Not all my childhood movies have withstood adult scrutiny but I’m happy to say that so far, this one has. The product placement is a little out of control but, hey, that was the 80′s for you.
Big, blue dong: longer and uncut
Watchmen (The director’s cut) came out today and I put it in immediately upon coming home. It’s a little over 3 hours long so I had to start it quick to be done by bedtime. I’m not sure I’m going to make it. Personally, I really liked the theatrical release so I’m hoping for just a little bit more of the same with the director’s cut.
Movie night
There are a handful of things going on tonight and I’m choosing to eschew all of them and decided instead to sit at home watching “Zack and Miri Make a Porno”. I haven’t seen it since it was in theaters so I got it today and am looking forward to all the extras. Kevin Smith is awesome at extras. One of my favorite things is how he includes all the deleted scenes from the shooting. Not just a handful…every…single…scene. It’s a perfect education in how different a movie can be after it hits the editing room.
Mandalay Bay Dive-in
Mandalay Bay, in their infinite creativity have re-invented the Drive-In. Out at their beach pool they have a movie screen and they run movies out there and call it the “Dive-In”. Take a swimsuit, go for a dip, watch a movie. They have 2 drinks included with the $10 ticket price and there’s just no beating the price. There’s also ping pong which is vaguely inexplicable but still fun. Oh and before anyone asks this isn’t even kind of 6:06. It’s like 5 till 10PM. I was on the phone at 6 and forgot to get a picture afterwards but this way we have something other than a shot of the darkened interior of the Blue Martini.
Ozploitation!
Home tonight and concentrating on nothing but watching TV until I decide to let sleep overtake me as soon as possible. I’m watching this really fun documentary called Not Quite Hollywood: The Wild, Untold Story of Ozploitation!. It’s all about the movie industry in Australia in the late 60′s through the 80′s. I’m not sure I’ve seen one on here yet I’d call amazing but regardless of the movies themselves, the characters involved in making them are making the documentary well worth watching. The movies were full of sex, blood, gore, car chases follwed by crashes and all around insanely dangerous stunts. To give you an idea of what we’re dealing with here, arguably the -best- movie to come out of this period, the culmination and -height- of the art form, was “Mad Max”. So, the documentary, awesome, the movies they’re talking about…not so much.
Clive!
It’s been a while since I’ve seen a movie so tonight, it’s “The International”. I was -very- eagerly awaiting this movie’s release in theaters and somehow it completely passed me by. Since “Run Lola Run” I’ve been a big fan of Tom Twyker so when I heard he had been given a big movie I couldn’t wait. Then I completely spaced it. I watched it tonight because I remember wanting to see it and couldn’t remember why. Then the opening credits started and I remembered. (doesn’t it look like there are too many “e”s in that word?) I couldn’t sleep for crap last night so I’m a little delerious right now. I’m going to stop talking.
Will the franchise be embarrased?
I’ve been hearing an awful lot of negative things about “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”. No one talks about how much of a bitch it is to type. We’re relatively early in the movie and already my suspension of disbelief is being stretched to uncomfortable levels. I know it’s Indiana Jones but c’mon. Just because you have CGI doesn’t mean you have to use it to ridiculous levels.
