Congratulations Paxton!

Paxton’s parents are having his graduation bbq today which I was happy to be invited to. Paxton would be the one in the middle of that picture being totally surrounded in a giant friends and family group hug. After 12 years of school he’s popped out the other side, hopefuly to forget his school years as thoroughly as the rest of us. I know those years are formative and helped shape who I’ve become I’m just glad they’re in the past. The distant, rapidly receding past. Which is really the wrong way to say that. I guess the nicest way of phrasing it is: congratulations on starting this, the next, much better chapter of your life.

PS: but laze about with intent and vigor for the rest of the summer. The next 3 months should be all about enjoying zip and squat in all of their glory.

Poker night

It’s 1st Saturday (Thanks 4th Place for the phrase) which means Hawkin’s house for poker night. Not too full of a house today which is both good and not so good all at the same time. When we have 20 people across 2 tables it takes less time, like half the time, to have a whole tournament than having just 8 people at one table. I can’t explain it, maybe some of the poker nuts can. Regardless, we’re having a lot of fun as we always do. Thanks Hawkins’s for hosting this!

Another good Beer and Blog Las Vegas

Beer and Blog is fun as always. Got beer, got conversation, I’m good. Although, I’m a little too zoned to be my “super social” self today. I decided to be my “semi-social quieter” self. Which is better than my “anti-social, retreating to the gloom of my apartment” self. I like how this picture makes @mikeyvegas look like something out of a horror movie.

Wordcamp Denver. We made it!

No longer driving, we actually made it to Denver. WordCamp was today and it went really well. The only hiccup was the fact that the Internet connection was too underpowered to handle the conference and that meant we might as well not have had any. It was just spotty enough that people kept trying instead of throwing up their hands and giving up. This was on top of the fact that it was in this auditorium built in such a way as to completely kill all cell service. I know we make fun of me for being a little too plugged in sometimes but you should have seen some of these ‘netaholics twitch and gibber.

It bears repeating though that the rest of the conference was really good. The morning was shared and the afternoon was split into blogger and tech tracks so the bloggers didn’t have to sit through the XMLRPC talk and the tech guys didn’t have to suffer…well, whatever was on the blogger track. I obviously went to the tech track.

Pictured here are Hawkins and Andrew, who are a couple of my traveling companions and Jeana and Austin who flew in from LA. We met them at WordCamp Vegas and it was nice to see some people we knew at this thing.

-still- on the road to Denver

We are way up in the mountains today and feeling a little light headed from a lack of oxygen. I know I’m not real in shape or anything but walking 20 yards uphill doesn’t normally put me out of breath. I borrowed Hawkins’ fisheye lens for the iPhone for this picture. All the add-on lenses for the iphone don’t fit quite right and I always get that weird black circle in the bottom but it’s something different.

Poker night at Johns

John thows a monthly poker night that I just have a hell of a time getting to. I remembered this time though and since I have evinced an interest in the actual dealing part of poker he let me deal and gave me some tips before the main event. I played (badly) and stuck around and dealt the after event a well. It was a great learning experience and I have to say I’m enjoying the dealer bit more than they playing bit. I’m not actualy sure why, but there you have it.

The weekend is here

This has been a long week. Not really hard or stressful, just long. I haven’t been to PT’s for a long time so when Hawkins asked if I wanted to grab a beer after work, it sounded like an excellent idea. At some point Mike decided to join us too and I managed to snap them both for the diaries. I know what you’re thinking but, sorry ladies, these guys are taken.
