Prepare for naptime

I was out way too late last night to be up when I was this morning for breakfast with everyone. I’ve been running full tilt all day and now that I’m home and finally taking a deep breath I can’t really keep my eyes open. I’m letting nature take its course as I read this crime caper novel. I’ve been reading the Richard Stark “Parker” series and they’re a lot of fun. Less than 200 pages each and written in a perfect hard boiled flavor. Fun and interesting without requiring a -whole- lot of extra thought. This picture is taken with the new iPhone. This isn’t probably the best example of the new phone’s awesome extra megapixel of resolution, auto focus and auto white balance but we’ll see over time how it fares compared to some of my previous phones.

Book, immobility…good

I feel like hammered crap. It started this morning and went downhill all day. To that end I am taking it easy, relaxing with a book and planning on getting to bed early.

A good book

I’m reading “Fool” right now and unless sleep dictates that I have to stop, I’m going to finish it today. Sleep may have to dictate that because I was up -way- too late last night. Starting a 2 and a half hour movie at 2AM was just stupid but hoped I’d power through it. Not a chance. Luckily the book is really, really good so it’s at least keeping my interested.

Books are like crack

There are 3 series of books that read faster than anything else(IMHO). In order of reading speed (fast to slow) they are 1) Robert Asprins Myth books 2)JK Rowlings Harry Potter and 3)Terry Pratchets Discworld. I have now read a book from 2 and 3 and am now ready for something a little heavier. But it has been a fun couple of days.

Reading bliss

I just finished this book. it was great. Everyone go read it and do NOT, under any circumstances, let anyone talk to you about it until you read it. It’s going to be hard with all the press it’s getting but stay vigilant.

More bookisms

I’m sitting here reading, waiting for Don to get off the phone so we can get some dinner. This is the first book I’ve read by Sarah Vowell. Some of you may know her from “This American Life” on NPR but the rest will surely know her as Violet from “The Incredibles”. Regardless, she’s a very talented commentator slash writer who writes just like she talks on the radio. Totally worth a read.

Reading again

My stack of books has been growing steadily as I keep getting books but not reading them. Evil TV is cutting into my book time. With summer here and nothing downloaded to watch it’s back to the books. This is Chuck Palahniuks newest. I’ve been a fan since Fight Club and I have really enjoyed his work and the way it has progressed since then. This book has an odd format, a bunch of writers telling stories. So it has an overall story about the writers as a group and then the rest of the book is all short stories. It’s a great format.
