I really wish this show had someone else starring in it
I am feeling like absolute crap today. The sickness that has been creeping up on me all week has landed. I worked some earlier but had to stop for some healing naptime. Now I’m catching up on some TV and trying for some lightweight work but I’m not sure any of that’s going to get done. I worship at the alter of Whedon but Dollhouse isn’t his best effort. My biggest problem is not the story, which I’m actually pretty happy with, but his choice for the lead role. I don’t know if Eliza Dushku is just phoning in her performance because the show’s ending after this season or if she’s always been this bad in it but I swear she’s getting worse. I didn’t expect another Firefly but damn, Joss…you can do better than this.
Work, work, work
I may have to pick a different time for taking pictures because 6:06 is pretty much going to be work time most of the time. We’ll see how it turns out. I take pictures of my desk a lot but tonight I figured I’d turn the camera around. Even with no other audible distractions (other than the occasional meow from Pixel) I find that the headphones allow me to concentrate more on what I’m doing and keep me focused on work. After 7 years of using the headphones to block out external noise I have, in a certain pavlovian sense, been trained that headphones means worktime.
Fire pit or washing machine drum?
Correct, it’s both! It’s Shannyn’s birthday so we’re having a surprise BBQ for her. Joe grilled up pounds of dead animal and fired up the fire pit which is made from a washing machine drum. It seems ghetto (and kinda is) but it’s extremely functional, providing oxygen to the fire and ambient heat radiating outward, and doesn’t look that bad.
More & Gendel at the Hilton
We attended the LV Hilton tweetup before we had to go to the Lenovo party for CES and just as we were leaving this band, More & Gendel showed up. I talked to them for a sec and they seemed very cool. I definitely need to go back and check them out at the Tempo Lounge. There aren’t a lot of lounges in Vegas left with live music, no cover and affordable drinks. I like to reinforce this behavior.
Another in a long series
We’re having Beer and Blog at McMullins Irish Pub tonight which means I had to get the Irish nachos. They truly are amazing but this is possibly the worst food picture I’ve ever taken. Just take my word for it, they’re delicious.
What I do…
This is an illustration of the magic I get to make happen. Turning someone’s words into this kind of picture and from there into code is more of an art than a science. Mostly because clients tend to think in visionary terms and I have to get it down to nuts and bolts. This drawing wasn’t supposed to be as phallic as it turned out to be. I didn’t even notice until -someone- pointed it out to me.
Chaos at Macaroni Grill
I’m having dinner with Ma at Macaroni Grill and we had one waitress but she had to go so we got a different guy and there was all this crossing out of names on the tablecloth. It was madness, I tell you, maddness!
