So many choices

Matt’s gone into vapor lock and may have to be rebooted. He’s shopping for a hat and has waaayyy too many choices. As long as he doesn’t buy the one he’s wearing I don’t really care. I think he agrees with me that it’s hideous. On a positive note we had a nice dinner at Cadillac Ranch and then I got a new pair of shoes as Sketchers so all in all it’s been a very productive evening. Now I’m on my way home to bring some order to the chaos and do some laundry. Or I’ll continue reading like it’s going out of style…forgive me, I’m weak.

Mac and cheese!

Hope and Don are abandoning us so they’ve decided to throw one last Vegas BBQ at their house. Hope made her famous mac ‘n cheese and it was awesome as always. We’re going to miss those two but time moves on and your friends move away. We’ll just have to visit them regularly in LA and they will also have to come back regularly to us. Who doesn’t want to visit Vegas, right? Living here is awesome in that respect.

Fun at Dick’s

Austin and Jeana are in town and a large contingent of Jeana’s TX family is here as well for her cousin’s 21st birthday. I’m all for going to Vegas for your 21st birthday but I’m not sure I’d want my mom there to watch me get obliterated with my friends. To each their own I guess. I’ve discovered something interesting about Dick’s Last Resort. It’s a fun place as we’ve sort of spoken about before. You want to make sure you have a relatively homogeneous group. Mixing kids and parents as a dude wearing a red thong is dancing around and recreating scenes from the Bellagio fountain…a little uncomfortable with your aunt, uncle, mom, dad and various cousins are all sitting there together. This was illustrated a couple times as our waiter referred to the bartender as “that chick with the big tits” and another waiter was doing a strip tease wearing a prom dress. I expect the spectacle and abuse from the waitstaff but look at that picture? I didn’t expect such bad grammar. C’mon, Dick’s, show a little pride in your work.

Sushi time!

Ma, Kelly and her daughter (the mysterious hand) organized an outing for some sushi madness down at TaTa Asian bistro. Matt’s in town so he’s here as well as Kelly’s nail goddess, Tiffany. It’s been a -very- leisurely dinner. Matt, Ma and I got here early and have been visiting then there was a sake sampler and a bottle of Bohae Raspberry wine (pictured in Matt’s fingers) involved. After this it’s home to sleep like a log…if a log was something that could sleep. Sleep like a baby also doesn’t work because though I don’t have one I’ve known people who do and if there’s one things babys don’t do, it’s sleep. Regardless, I’m going to sleep…sleep a lot if I can swing it.

Now that’s what I’m talking about

The A/C at home cacked out in a big way. A big enough way that they had to replace something they didn’t have or couldn’t get on a Sunday afternoon. They set up a portable unit but that’s only really keeping it from actually matching the outside temperatures not exactly making it comfortable. I can handle it during the day but I just can’t handle sleeping hot. Using the power of the Internet I found a hotel down the street and got a room for the night for $40 and as long as Doubletree is paying the electric bill I’m going to put the thermostat at something ridiculously low. I have good climate, good books and grabbed some takeout…it’s like a 1-day mini vacation.

Happy Independence Day!

I’m in Boulder City for the fireworks and hanging out with Ma and friends. It’s weird but they really do have the best fireworks show in the area. It’s totally funded by donations that the city collects throughout the year. They have collection jars scattered all over the town and it must work because they put on a heck of a show every year. I really like that the way it’s set up you can pretty much sit right underneath them. It’s a very close-up kind of experience and I highly recommend it.

Most definitely not raining or hailing

Ma called me earlier and all I can hear is what sounds like heavy static in the background. It wasn’t static, it was hail (or hay-el as Ma likes to say). Boulder City is only 20 miles away and here in Vegas it is brutally hot and the skys are clear. I don’t understand weather sometimes.

As for actual activities of the night, there’s a new comedy club we’re trying out tonight at the 4 Queens. I’m glad to see that someone decided to fill the gap left by the Comedy Stop closing its doors.
