Big, blue dong: longer and uncut

Watchmen (The director’s cut) came out today and I put it in immediately upon coming home. It’s a little over 3 hours long so I had to start it quick to be done by bedtime. I’m not sure I’m going to make it. Personally, I really liked the theatrical release so I’m hoping for just a little bit more of the same with the director’s cut.

A faithful recreation

He’s even wearing one of the hats he was wearing in the picture we’re copying! I’m very proud of this picture but have to give Matt props for coming up with the idea. We all (Ma, Matt, Club S and I) met up at Costco for a little pre-dinner shopping. Everyone had something to look for except for me…which is dangerous. I don’t need to be wandering around Costco without an agenda waiting for inspiration to strike. Last time this happened my bank account was -not- happy. I’ll keep it under control today, though…ooh, cameras!

High class tequila

John invited me over for some dinner and WordPress hacking tonight and as an incentive he let me try some of this amazing tequila. He’s blogged about it before but this is the first time I got to experience the amazing that is Chinaco Negro. Even better was trying it out of Disney shot glasses. That irony occurred to us at the time and we laughed about it but as I write this it dawns on me: why is Disney even selling shot glasses in the first place? Walt, poor Walt. Good thing he’s dead or this sort of thing would have killed him. Regardless, Chinaco tequila of any variety is very, very good but this stuff is exceptional.

Movie night

There are a handful of things going on tonight and I’m choosing to eschew all of them and decided instead to sit at home watching “Zack and Miri Make a Porno”. I haven’t seen it since it was in theaters so I got it today and am looking forward to all the extras. Kevin Smith is awesome at extras. One of my favorite things is how he includes all the deleted scenes from the shooting. Not just a handful…every…single…scene. It’s a perfect education in how different a movie can be after it hits the editing room.

Classic Bert and Blog

That’s supposed to say “Beer” and blog, not “Bert” and blog. Why the phone auto completed whatever I typed to Bert (which I’ve never typed before) instead of beer (which is a word I type a lot) is a mystery.

The things we do for art…

The thing we’re doing for art is that I’ve taken about 20 pictures of John like this. What we were trying to do is get the flash to go off just as I clicked the button. If we had gotten one that worked we would have just put it up and it would look amazing. We didn’t though so I’m telling you that there are many more exactly like this.

John and I are at the studio doing some test shoots to get some baseline camera settings for both seamless white and black backgrounds. I have a shoot this weekend where we want to do those two things specifically and it’s good to know some good beginning points before you get the subject there. Makes them much more confident in you if you aren’t fumbling with lights and settings and looking confused half the time….like we were tonight. Something bad to say in front of your model “wow…I have no idea why this is working”.

Vista, you suck so much

Matt’s computer is in sickbay having some minor issues. Part of it is that it’s running out of memory, which is an easy fix, and part of it is unexplained crashes, which is harder. Vista is nice in one respect, it will tell you how many times your computer has crashed, why it crashed and if Microsoft has a fix for that issue. Out of 23 issues, 3 were resolved and 1 was a total buck pass to a manufacturer that I’m trying to decipher. Hey, it’s better than nothing. So I’m slogging through that part of the process now. The nice thing about the way my desk is set up is that I can watch “True Blood” on the laptop and get my southern on while I’m workin’…workING, I meant working. This show will be the death of me.
