The things we do for art…

07.14.2009

The thing we’re doing for art is that I’ve taken about 20 pictures of John like this. What we were trying to do is get the flash to go off just as I clicked the button. If we had gotten one that worked we would have just put it up and it would look amazing. We didn’t though so I’m telling you that there are many more exactly like this.

John and I are at the studio doing some test shoots to get some baseline camera settings for both seamless white and black backgrounds. I have a shoot this weekend where we want to do those two things specifically and it’s good to know some good beginning points before you get the subject there. Makes them much more confident in you if you aren’t fumbling with lights and settings and looking confused half the time….like we were tonight. Something bad to say in front of your model “wow…I have no idea why this is working”.

What? Drink Aquafina? There’s really nothing else in this pic that seems out of place….

For some reason this reminds me of the setup to one of those terrorist ransom videos, maybe its the sunglasses and scarf…

Scarf? Are you kidding? It’s 110 outside. How cold do you think it is inside that I’m wearing a scarf. For your information that is a two-tone shirt. Blue with blue.

The sunglasses, well, after a few test shots of the flash, the sunglasses were more self preservation than anything else.

Right you are John! My monitor at work is pretty crappy and I must’ve had Frosty the Snowman on the mind to mistake that swath of dark blue for a scarf. But hell, you guys could have been doing a “Christmas in July” shoot, right?

You’ve been talking about that crappy monitor for like 4 years. Just stick a screwdriver in one of the slats and put it out of its misery so you can get a new one

Mom made fun of my monitor in her oh so subtle way:
Mom: That monitor is huge. I thought you got a smaller one.
Me: That is a smaller one, a lot smaller
Mom: But it is so big, I didn’t know they made them that size anymore.
Me: Well it was a hand me down
Mom: Still, amazing it still works, have you seen it from the side? It is just so big.
            Me: . . . .

If Todd was in charge of the temperature I could understand the need for a scarf, I often have the urge to put on winterwear at Todd’s
