More post-Apocalyptica
It started with the books but I’m maintaining the theme into movies. This movie is “Mutant Chronicles” BTW. Like I said previously, I’m always a fan of this genre. I just happen to be experiencing a lot of it all at once right now. I am getting it mixed up though with “Dystopian Future”. These have similar yet different meanings. “Idiocracy” is dystopian, “28 Days Later” is apocalyptic. Once I get past the apocalyptic thing I’ll move to dystopian. I’ll also have to watch “The Postman”, “Mad Max”, “Omega Man”, “Escape from NY/LA”…I better get on it.
Just in case anyone wants to know my top 3 favorite movies in this area
“12 Monkeys”
“28 Days Later”
“The Matrix” (relax, I’m just talking about the first one)
Boxing, anyone?
Samantha really does get just a little too into the whole boxing on the Wii thing. It’s good exercise, her way, that’s for sure. I don’t want to be the one to tell her that although you -can- box with all this blurry effort, it’s still technically a video game and you don’t -have- to expend this kind of effort.
I love me a post apocalypse
I’ve seen it before but “Doomsday” is just good, clean fun. It’s not the most believable movie front to back but it’s not ridiculous the entire movie and some of the things that they talk about are potentially very realistic takes on a post-apocalyptic society. Plus stuff blows up, there’s swordfights, people get shot with arrows and Rhona is pretty awesome in her role as “bad-ass special forces babe”.
Is she ever fully dressed in movies anymore?
After having the chaimail tried on last night I realized I have made an error
in sizing somewhere down the line and the whole middle front of this dress needs to be shifted a couple inches to the left while not changing the middle back at all. This is more complicated than it sounds, unless it sounds complicated to you in which case you’re dead on. The problem is that I’ll open and close like 1,000 rings but by the time I’m done I’ll only have added maybe 20 to the whole mess. Ah well, it’s still a fun hobby.
Keeping me occupied today is “Funny Games U.S.” (pictured here) and a mini Ellen Page-athon featuring “Hard Candy” and “Smart People”. Chainmail really is a great way to catch up on my movie and TV watching.
Doug Stanhope, bitter, cynical, hillarious
More comedy. I’ve seen Stanhope live a couple times and he’s really, really funny. Really funny in a very specific way. He’s not what we would call a really “accessible” comedian. He’s just too caustic and cynical and bitter and, well, smart for most people to really grasp. Some comedians (Dane Cook, I’m looking in your direction) pander to the lowest common denominator and don’t do it very well. Some comedians rise above that and are better for it but will always make less money because of it. Bill Hicks was another great example of this but he died before hardly anyone knew who he was. Regardless, Stanhope is keeping me occupied for the moment. I’m working on chainmail today for a Halloween costume and that means I need something to occupy my mind while my hands are occupied with endless metallic monotony. Hey, that’s a good name for a band. I’m making purple circles about 5″ across out of little purple rings. This is even more monotonous than usual. It’ll be worth it in the end though. I can’t wait to see the final product.
Don’t bother me, I’m reading
Rob turned me on to this series and I’m both glad and upset at him for doing it because it’s really good (glad) but it’s only 5 of 6 books into the series right now (upset). I can’t say too much. I’ve turned a bunch of people on to the “Songs of Ice and Fire” books and that series isn’t going to be over for a decade at best. I started this book a couple hours ago when I got home from work and I can just tell that I’m not going to be able to put it down until it’s done. So I say thanks Rob…damn you…
Billy Burr, what have you done?
I’m just chilling at home tonight watching a little comedy. Billy Burr is a favorite but he looks…weird. I don’t know what he’s done to his hair but he should undo it and go back to what it used to look like.
