Movie time with friends and a serial killer
09.24.2008
We’ve gathered here today for a momentous occasion, the sneak preview of “Choke”. Some of us have been waiting a looong time for this movie. Hopefuly it doesn’t disappoint. I wouldn’t want to piss off the dude with all the tattoos, would you?
Edit: “Choke” was officially AWESOME! Sam Rockwell and Angelica Houston played their parts to absolute perfection. The movie was just as funny and weird and dirty and funny as I remember the book being. Yes, funny is in there twice on purpose. There were, unfortunately, some older folks in the audience who just didn’t get it. As long as you don’t remember the Truman administration and you’re not easily offended by comedic sexuality, you’ll probably like it.

This wasn’t a weekend or crowded but it was free. We did have to go stand in line for an hour and a half but that’s not horrible when you’re hanging out with friends.
Alex wouldn’t know, he ain’t got no friends! Booyah!
I am really looking forward to this movie as well. Geeek looks scary in this picture, it is a good thing we know better.
I like Chris’ hair. John/Todd, tell her that for me
It is weird seeing that girl talk without her british accent.
adam…you are out of control. reign it in buddy.
We figured it out at work on Friday, we have been waiting to see this movie since May 1st, 2007 when it was first announced on AintItCoolNews that it had been green lit. That’s a lot of build-up. I’m so very excited to say that it was excellent and worth the wait. I wrote a review of it over here that tells the tale of the audience we saw it with. I don’t know which I enjoyed more, the movie, or listening to the throng of old ladies who absolutely HATED the movie. It’s a toss-up.
I should’ve never sent you that link, I have caused a Todd rant.
Everyone I went with liked it (old ladies notwithstanding) but I was really surprised at the Rotten Tomatoes rating. Usually I trust them but this movie is pretty polarizing I guess. A lot of people keep saying that it “didn’t have a detectable point” or that the message was “minor at best” or “totally missing”. A bunch say it’s too close to the book which means it could never make a good movie. A bunch say it wasn’t close enough to the book which means it was bland and didn’t have an edge. I re-iterate: “Choke” was awesome and as long as you aren’t an uptight movie reviewer and don’t remember what life was like before the Cuban Missile Crisis, you could enjoy this movie.
