Bruce Campbell, you rule
Rob has recommended a movie called “Bubba Ho-Tep” to me. I was skeptical until he said it was Bruce Campbell. Something about that guy makes for interesting movies. He’s also very good on “Burn Notice”. I was skeptical due to the explained plot of the movie. Elvis is alive and living in a nursing home. His only friend is Jack Kennedy who was kidnapped after the “assassination” and medically turned into a black man. An ancient mummy somehow gets loose in there and is killing off the residents one by one and they have to stop him. I know its hard to believe but it really is quite enjoyable. The story and production value were much better than I was expecting. It’s a perfect movie for making some sangria and inviting some friends over for a crappy movie kind of night.
Hmm, someone has food
This picture turned out way darker than I wanted it to but them’s the limitations of ye olde iPhone. Geeeek is having a movie night at his house. We’re going to watch “Frankenhooker”. I’ve never seen it but it’s one of his favorites so he’s introducing it to us all. It’s always fun coming over here, not just for the company, but for the dogs. Their 2 little chihuahuas are always a topic should the conversation lull at any point. This brings up an interesting point: Is little chihuahua a redundant phrase?
Kart!
This was a really complicated picture to get I’d like you to know. This is why Mario Kart Wii is cool. It uses an actual “steering wheel” shaped device. The Wii is pretty good about breaking all those “game controller” habits we’ve been building over the years which really opens gaming up for so many more people. I gotta be careful with this game though because it has the potential to become extremely addicting I think and that’s just not something I want to spend a lot of time on.
30 minutes early wasn’t early enough
Against my better judgement I’ve been coerced into seeing “The Dark Night” on opening weekend. Evidently about a trillion other people decided to do the same thing. The theater already has a slightly swampy flavor and the movie hasn’t even started yet. Mostly this has to do with the fact that we’re uncharacteristically humid lately which is not cool…so to speak. As long as the infant in the stroller ahead of us stays quiet for the next 2.5 hours I think it’ll be an enjoyable experience…yeah, I’m not holding my breath.
Friday night Yardhouse-ism
Multiple ex-employee people (who shall remain nameless) were in from out of town this weekend and none of them showed up at the Yardhouse tonight. That’s OK because we still managed to have a great time (as you can see) but I -did- cancel plans with Manduh because we had special guests…and they flaked. Lame. I’m now going to have to never hear the end of it from her. Damn.
Poker academy
The Hard Rock is opening up a “Poker Lounge” which is some weird combo poker room and lounge (where lounge = bar/club mashup) and Samantha (and some of her fellow employees) wants to learn how to play some poker before then because they’re having some sort of internal competition before it’s open to the public. Somehow she decided I knew something about poker so I’m over at her house for dinner and we’re going over some rules of the game. The game being tournament no-limit hold-em. I didn’t have the heart to tell her I didn’t know that much aboutt strategy although I knew just about everything else so I begged geeeek, as my resident poker guru, for some help. He helped immeasurably by sliding me a basic instruction guide he had written up previously and I owe him for this big time. Without this guide I’d be just guessing, basically.
So tired of being sick
I don’t mind all the downtime to be able to catch up on TV and reading and so on but it would be nice to not feel like such crap while it was happening.
