A (possibly) new era

As you saw yesterday, I have a new phone. Maybe. I’m in the break-in/test-drive phase and if it sucks I get to take it back for a refund. Thus far I’m impressed and very much enjoying it. It’s not so much that it’s better than my old phone, that’s a given. It’s that it has to be A LOT better than my old phone to make it worth prematurely canceling my Cingular contract. There is one big plus…I typed this whole thing on the phone. Sweet.

The new phone is kinda big

I like all the perspective in this picture. This is a pic of my new phone, the Helio Ocean. After staring at Manduh and Matt’s phones all weekend I just couldn’t stand it anymore. I needed a phone with a keyboard and really, really wanted one that could do reasonable Internet. The problem is that all the phones I saw that could do that were way pricey and the addition of data plans to my cingular phone bill would have been prohibitively expensive. I gotta stay ahead of the sibs but $100/mo and a $600 -$700 phone is taking it a little too far. Enter Helio. $65/mo, 500 minutes and everything else included and unlimited. That’s right, unlimited. All the messaging, emails, browsing, youtube and GPS-ed Google maps I can handle and still only $65/mo. Now that’s exciting.

Happy I’m home?

He probably didn’t even know I was gone. Now that I have a stand-in for when I go out of town it’s like he doesn’t care…ok, that’s not true. I swear having a roommate to keep Pixel company while I’m gone makes him worse. I also have to hear stories about him wandering around and meowing while I was gone to just put the guilty icing on the cake.

Happy birthday Ma!

We don’t get Ma on 606 very often. Thanks to Manduh for playing the guest photographer. We spent most of the m morning reading and lazing about, saw “Stardust” (4th time for me, 2nd for the sibs, 1st for Ma), saw some sites and got some grub. I don’t know if that fulfills Ma’s idea of a good birthday but I think we all had fun.

The happy couple

We’re here at the Market Street Grill for a nice dinner for Ma. Utah, or at least SLC has managed to redeem itself a little today. This restaurant is good and we went to prety much the best bookstore ever today. If you do find yourself lost in a funk of despair, wandering aimlessly through SLC, go downtown and check out Sam Weller’s bookstore. It’s like a square mile of new and used books split into three floors. It staggers the imagination. We spent 3 blissful hours there and it was transcendent. Well, -I- spent 3 blissful hours…I’m not sure about the rest of the crew…they’re fine.
