Time for a readjustment
11.28.2006
When I first set up the projector and sound system, Alex was gracious enough to come over and help me set the sound levels for maximum home theater fun. Since then, however, I’ve had to change things because of a compaint from the neighbors. Namely, turning down the sub volume and listening at a generaly lower volume. This is fine until there’s dialog that I can’t hear followed by explosions that have me diving for the “vol down” button on the remote. So I have made adjustments to the center levels as well. I was lamenting that it just wasn’t sounding right so Justin graciously offered to come over and help me adjust the settings since I don’t have a sound level meter (the device shown in this pic) or a set-up DVD. I fear this is one of those things that needs a whole lot of tweaking before it’s “done”.

Todd, this is the a/v nerd equivalent of NSFW. Like posting a picture of a playboy centerfold, I will be ogling this all day long (drool…).
And I was worried you’d be offended because I readjusted after you helped me out the first time. Oh, and Justin was curious and wants to know which DVD you were using. He is using the Avia disc as you can see. I think he wanted to check it out.
I probably used “Digital Video Essentials”. I have since learned that Avia generally gives a better calibration for audio (mostly due to the way it handles bass tones), while DVE has more thorough video test patterns, especially for digital display devices. I just got a free copy of Avia with my subwoofer, but I didn’t feel like going through the whole calibration thing again. For real fun, Todd, i will come over and use Manduh’s laptop to do some frequency response analysis on your room (especially bass response). Stop me before I calibrate again!
Really you should just buy a house so you can listen to movies at whatever volume you want.
Adam like to use “Cumshitters 12″.
