New toy

I finally cracked and bought an mp3 player. I have ocasional need for one but didn’t want to spend the money, especially when they were like 2 and 4 gigs which isn’t enough to store any reasonable amount of music. I found this 20GB model for $130 though and that’s a good deal so I jumped at it. I found out later that it also shows pictures and movies which is extraneous but kinda fun. Of course what I really want is something the size of a pack of gum that has 20GB. Someday I guess. Until then I’ll live with this mediocrity.

That’s pretty good, but it is kinda big.
It’s freaking huge…but it does show movies so…it’s a tradeoff. If I were to take a plane ride or something it would be a cool way to take some movies with me for the trip.
I have gone back and forth with several different MP3 players. A few years ago I bought a 60GB model that was the size of a brick. It’s awesome in that I can continue to put songs on it and not even come close to filling it, but, it was just WAY too inconvenient for daily use. I then bought a microscopic player that held 1 GIG. Obviously, not enough music for a long trip, but for a poker tourney, it was pretty decent. Problem, the battery door broke after about 4 uses. Me = Not Pleased. I recently got a 4 GIG iPod Nano. Couple that with the necklace/earbud kit and this is a poker player’s dream. I have no fear of it breaking since I’m not dragging it in and out of my pocket a bunch of times. It just hangs there in the middle of my chest waiting for me to bust out of another tournament. All the while singing Copacabana… Thank you, Neil Diamond.
Oh no, now you will start Todd on his anti-ipod rant and Matt will feel the need to defend it and it will jus go down hill from there.
I have no need to repeat myself. History will tell the tale.
hey, I avoided the ipod for years. But, it’s a solid product. Like it or not.
. . . and we’re off!
WAIT! We’re not off! I’m not saying it’s not a solid (sometimes) dependable product. I’m just saying it’s not the second coming of…um….the electronic equivalent of sliced bread.
You’re right all things popular must be CRAP!!!!
Oh, You’re right, all things popular must be AWESOME!!!!
told you so
I’m with Todd.
Do you all ever get tired of me always being right? I sure don’t.
I LOVE the iTunes interface….
(ok, not really. I was just curious if I’d be able to hear Todd’s head explode from the other side of the office.)
dammit dammit dammit. I had a really long post about the ipod props and disses both, this was new material! And then we lost power. Here’s the short version that tons of iPod user have complained about.
1) Non-replaceable battery. The iPod isn’t the only mp3 player with this problem but not ALL mp3 players have this problem. $60 to replace a battery? WTF. At least it’s not $100 like when they first came out.
2) iTunes blows. Music can go -to- the ipod but never -from- the ipod. Not without special 3rd party software. Using iTunes only though, if your computer were to crater and you only had your music on your iPod you’d be screwed and unable to get the music from ipod to computer. At least iTunes stopped deleting anything on the iPod that wasn’t on the main computer.
I still hate the interface but that’s just me and I freely admit it.
