Brokeback, finally

I never got a chance to see this movie in theaters so I picked it up on one of my recent DVD runs. I’ve heard from an amazing variety of people that it was one of the best movies to come out last year and thus far, about halfway through I’d have to agree. What has been the most fun is to see how many people won’t even attempt to see the movie based on the content. Like I’ve said before, make a movie that’s a little different and people will wig.

Yeah that’s right, FM.

I still haven’t renewed the XM subscription and on days like this that sucks. The only thing on NPR is “Prairie Home Companion” which I’m never in the mood for and I’ve heard all the CD’s about as much as i want to so I’m spinning through FM space looking for something, anything. to listen to. Thus far I am unsuccessful.

New restaurant

I haven’t seen the Shiverbakers in quite a while so we’re meeting up for some dinner and a movie. We’re at this neat new hawaiian place up by their house called Lahaina. They have some really excellent steak and sushi. If we’re lucky we’ll hit Red Rock in time for “Lady In the Water”. It’s been getting crap reviews but that’s been true of all his movies since “6th Sense” and I’ve liked them all so I don’t really care.

Recipe for a fun night

I’ve been hearing about this movie for a while so I finally picked it up. Rodric came over tonight and we got some white russian fixins. Comedy’s always more funny with alcohol. Wait…is this…is THIS why they give you two free drinks at a comedy club?! Those sneaky bastards!

So many movies that I’ve already seen.

I have movies, -good- movies on DVD that I have yet to see but I am sitting here watching “I, Robot”. It wasn’t my intention. I put in “Brokeback Mountain” and turned on the TV and before I switched to DVD I was hooked. I gotta watch some of it now. It’s got a great beginning. The end gets a little weird with all the evil spider robots but until then it’s an interesting murder mystery and glimpse into a possible future. Any minute now I’ll turn it on and watch the good movie….eny minute…..

The life of the cat

After the umpteen gajillion hours of sleep this weekend I guess Pixel didn’t get enough rest. It must be tough to be a cat with this kind of schedule.

Editing my chainmail pliers

I had a bunch of stuff to catch up on at work so I’m working from home today. In between work spurts I’m doing laundry, cleaning and playing with the chainmail pliers. I did a bunch of chainmail yesterday and it illuminated how un-ergonomic my pliers are. I had previously wrapped the handles in rope and covered them with hot glue. This worked for a long time but eventualy the glue couldn’t take the strain and cracked off so I’ve been using them in their basic state which is no good. I tried just using the plasti-dip in multiple layers but it just won’t get that thick. I hopefuly fixed that by first wrapping the handles in string to thicken the grips and -then- dipping in the plasti-dip. When the pliers just had the string they seemed to be the right size but too slippery. I’m hoping that this is the right combination. And before any of you make fun of me for these goofy ideas I didn’t come up with them. This is accepted practice that I read about on some chainmail website. Well the rope hot glue was. The string plasti-dip was my own edition to the concept.
